Is actually not half bad. Gorgeous visually, but with all the options on their highest setting it runs like a bag of shit on my machine (P4 1.5GHz, GF3 Ultra, 1GB RAM). Playable in 1024×748, 32bit colour and medium detail options though.
While it doesn’t bring anything really new to the table as far as the FPS genre goes, it’s still enjoyable. Great atmospherics (in line with the original), superb enemy AI, well-designed (and vast) levels, and a vaguely interesting storyline.
Be warned though, it is one of those games that will make you want to upgrade your machine. I’m tempted, but I’ve got other things to save my money for…..
Nnngh, I take it back about the performance thing. It slows to a crawl in later levels even in 800×600 with the detail settings turned down. Anyone fancy buying me a new machine?

Personally I played Unreal 2 for a few hours and became bored, its just not got the atmosphere or the playability of Unreal1 (which I loved to bits). I had to turn the difficulty setting up for the first 5 levels or so as the boredom was killing me, then as I just found it became like Unreal Tournament (’03) fighting against ‘bot’ opponents.
I got very bored and switched it off, probably never to be played again. Shame really as I was really looking forward to it and wanted a nice tie over till D00M3 :(

Hey, blame Epic not me! And with hindsight I’d agree with your comments about it becoming boring. I enjoyed the first couple of levels, but I soon lost interest. We’ll just have to wait for D3, although I’m dreading seeing how that runs on my machine :p

But D00m3 will be worth the upgrade, hopefully I’ll be safe, apart from a GFX card upgrade which I’ve been expecting for a short while now anyway.
