After weeks and weeks of saying we’d visit Jodrell Bank me and the wonderful Bec finally met up in deepest darkest Cheshire yesterday and made our way over there. First though was the task of finding a pub to grab a couple of pints and something to eat, which turned out to be incredibly difficult seeing as there are almost no pubs to be found and the ones that we did find weren’t open until 12. So after driving round for about 30 mins and getting ourselves lost we settled for a cup of char outside in the sun, killing some time until a pub we’d been recommended (and scoped out) earlier opened its doors.
A few games of pool, some food, and a couple of pints later we headed over to Jodrell Bank to see if anything had changed since either of us had last been there (like 10 years ago or whatever). And guess what? IT HASN’T! They had more or less all the same old crappy hands-on experiments that were there when we were kids, and they were still just as fun :) The highlight was definitely the swivel chair with the bike wheel - we must have spent about 30 mins in total on that thing, after kicking weirdo brace-wearing kids off :P Oooh and the whispering dishes! So much fun - but bear in mind that everyone can actually hear what you’re talking about when using those things….. I don’t think any of the science geeks that were around understood mine and Bec’s Russian kecatbab ordering conversation ;)
No Jodrell Bank experience would be complete without visiting the Planetarium, which again was just as cool as I’d remembered it. Our commentator / guide dude was totally nuts and kept getting things wrong or forgetting what he was talking which added to the amusement value greatly :) We also checked out the new ‘3D’ visit to Mars thing which was a bit lame, but I’m pretty sure my enjoyment of that was marred by the fact that some fat woman with a big head was sat in front of me making it hard to actually see what was going on.
If you’re interested then the few photos I took I’ve put up here. All in all it was a fantastic day, thanks Bec for making it so much fun :)
NIIICK!! no thank YOU for an ace day. much much much fun was had! *pencils you in for 3 years time when it re-opens* we’re totally going *nods* i bet the planetarium dude will still be there!

Assuming he hasn’t been committed he probably will be :P We should so be on some kind of panel which gets to say what kind of new exhibitions they have when it reopens. They’d better not get rid of that chair!!
