Gameface

with 3 comments

We made the trek all the way over to Leeds last night to see a band we’d already seen twice before - Gameface. Why? Because they never fail to disappoint, and last night was no different.

Despite Jeff (their vocalist) explaining at the start of the night how tired they all were after travelling for 11 hours straight they still played a really tight set, covering songs old and new. It was a long gig as a result, but that’s because they’ve been around a good few years and have a lot of material to cover. Saying that though, they didn’t play the one song that I really wanted to hear (”Day in June”), although they did play at least two songs from my favourite album so it’s all good.

We didn’t catch any of the supporting bands (yeah yeah, snobs that we are and all that) so I can’t comment on those guys. Soz! :)

Giddy Motors are playing next week on Monday at the Star and Garter in Manchester. I’m so looking forward to seeing these play live - their debut album “Make It Pop” is completely off the hook and it sounds like their show will be mental. I only hope I can make it as jury service starts next week :(

See, and here was me complaining not more than a couple of weeks ago about how no decent bands have played since I’ve come back from the US, and next thing you know two incredible ones are playing less than a week apart from each other. Score :)

Easter and stuff

without comments

Boo, the Easter Bank Holiday weekend is almost over which means I have to do some work tomorrow. That sucks.

Was fun while it lasted though. Barbecue followed by a hardcore ( :p ) poker session on Friday night and a few beers and pool on Saturday. Sunday was spent just roaching round recovering (and cleaning up), as was today really.

It was Chris’s turn to clean up at poker, the beginner’s luck I had last time failed to make an appearance so I was just another casualty in the wake of his skills. Ah well, even though I lost what I put in at the start of the night I’m still up after winning the previous session.

Oh, and in the time I had to myself I managed to finally see the last Buffy episode (Dirty Girls). And whoah, what an episode. Nathan Fillion makes a damn cool bad guy, but the reappearance of Faith totally did it for me. The ending of the episode was seriously nasty stuff, Joss again reminding us that noone is safe. On one hand I can’t wait to see how the end of this season pans out, but on the other I don’t really want it to end for obvious reasons.

Too damn hot

with 2 comments

It’s days like this that I pay dearly for being into computers. Hot day outside plus five machines and a switch means my room feels like a fucking sauna at the minute. I’m sticking to everything, it’s totally gross.

I’ll also state the obvious and say that on days like this I’d much rather be outside doing something as opposed to being indoors attempting to work, which I’m seriously not motivated to do seeing as I haven’t been paid for about seven weeks now.

So, anyone fancy chipping in and buying me aircon for my room? A UPS would be a nice addition too while you’re at it :)

Backyard Jam 2003, R1

with 2 comments

Finally arrived back from a weekend of madness late last night at about 11.30pm. The drive back was fairly painless with very little traffic, so we made it in about 4 1/2 hours or so. This is the opposite to the journey down there which took almost 7 due to the usual delays at Birmingham and around London :/

So yeah, the Backyard Jam 2003 was fairly mental. Ben did pretty good in amateur, pulling most of his stuff (except that damn flip :p ), but he didn’t make the final cut. I reckon he was ripped off, and I’m not just saying that because I’m biased I honestly thought his run was a hell of a lot better than most of the other riders’. Ah well, not enough trendy tricks I guess. You should learn crankflips Ben ;)
