Over the Hill

with 11 comments

I don’t know what set this off but I woke up this morning feeling old. Not in a physical sense or even in a real mental sense, just in a “shit, I’m 26 this year. 30 is fast approaching!”. I mean, 30. The big 3-0. That’s officially past-it. Over the hill. Put me out to pasture.

This has led me to think about other depressing subjects such as the realistic amount of time I will still be able to ride my bike. I’ve been on a stupid little BMX for about 10 years now, and physically I can probably manage another 8 or 9 if I’m *really* lucky. Which means I’m more than halfway through my riding ‘career’, so to speak. This is depressing because being on that bike is about the only thing I really, really enjoy doing - and so what comes after that? Will I find something else to occupy my time?

Who knows? Fuck it. Better make the most of it while I can. I’m off out to get drunk tonight and then I’m going to hit Stockton-on-Tees skatepark tomorrow.

Terrible One

As there is now a gap in the Terrible One team, I think it’s about time they hooked me up with the full factory deal. How about it Taj / Joe? I think I’d fit in perfectly with the current roster.

Duffs

I think Duffs have the right idea as far as advertising their product is concerned. Even if I had no idea who Duffs were or what they did, with adverts like these I’d still want to buy their product. Hey Etnies, want me to continue buying your shoes? Never mind sponsoring riders, I want adverts with hot chicks in bunny outfits licking goo off each other. Actually no, fuck that - just sponsor me.

On that note, fuck Thrasher magazine and its entire readership. Check this thread out in their forums (started by one of the Dirt Bros. no less) regarding that dumb-ass ‘BMX Jihad’ article. Apparently it’s now the longest thread they’ve ever had in there. My favourite quote:

“Skateboarders are the jocks of the 21st century.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love skateboarding and I have a lot of friends who are into it, but some peoples attitudes piss me right off - especially considering skateboarding’s history and the fact that they really should know better.

While I’m posting up videos you should probably check this out too - it’s a video of cats doing dumb things. Cheers to Boothy for finding that one. Oh, and I found this on my wall the other day. I hope it can fly as I had to throw it out of my window.

London

I’ve been trying to keep on top of updating this thing but the truth is I’ve been so busy recently I’ve just not had chance.

This weekend for example I headed down to London to meet up with a few friends and just hang out for a day or so. Saturday was hectic as I had to drive to Blackpool first thing in the morning to get fitted for a suit, then over to Leeds to pick Bec up, and then down to London.

All was fine until we hit traffic in the city centre and my car decided to overheat, which meant that me and Bec had to just sit and wait for the engine to cool and to top the radiator up. Seems there was a leak in one of the pipes which meant that I had to keep my eye on it for the rest of the weekend.
