Ex-Models

with one comment

This would have been a great gig if it wasn’t for the fucking shit venue that is the Roadhouse in Manchester.

We turned up at around 8.30, the first band was supposed to have been on at 8pm so we figured we’d just skip those, maybe catch the second band, and then watch who we’d come to see. It didn’t turn out like that though as after standing around for about 40 minutes Ex-Models came on unannounced and played their set, finishing real early at around 10pm.

If you haven’t heard them before, they’re really experimental and very random but with just enough coherency to save you having to concentrate too hard on what they’re doing. Their live show was superb, they played stuff old and new (although mainly material from their new album I think), but the venue totally let it down. The sound sucks in that place, and it’s a weird arrangement which means that when a band is on you can only really see properly from like 1/5th of the room. It also lacks in atmosphere, I can’t put my finger on it but it’s just not there at all.

I didn’t manage to take any photos (again, because of the shit layout of the place), so I lucked out there also.

Ah well. Not an entirely successful night, but I guess it beats just sitting around at home doing nothing in particular.

Shit, it’s Wednesday already. How did that happen? Definitely time for an update….

So last Thursday I went with Bec to see Ani DiFranco. I guessed it wouldn’t be my kind of thing, but I’m always down to see live music so I thought what the hell. I have to say though that I was blown away - she was so much fun to watch, totally full of energy and really in to what she was doing. It was great to see simply because it was obvious Ani herself was enjoying it as much as anyone else in the audience.

Back to Work

with one comment

Well, technically I’ve never been ‘away’ from work, but this is the first time I’ve been sat at a desk in some office for just over a year. And you know what? I’ve kinda missed it.

Sure, there are some downsides like not being able to lie in bed until late and shade off for the odd afternoon session at the skatepark. But it’s a hell of a lot easier to motivate yourself, and it’s definitely fun working with my friends. The area of work is the best thing though - I’m really stoked about these projects as it’s finally something I’m actually interested in.

We’ll see if I feel the same way in a few weeks, of course (i.e when I’m sick of having to wake up early and nothing I try to do works :P).
