Dumbass

I keep forgetting to mention this site - Transmission3000. Live sets for download from bands like Drive Like Jehu, June of ‘44, Fugazi and At the Drive-In? Yup. All free? You betcha.

Get to it, and maybe even donate some cash if you’re feeling generous. That site _rules_.

EDIT: Bonus link -

All these preppy sorority girls and suburban rich boys think they’re so cool ‘cause they have a tattoo with Japanese characters. But it doesn’t mean shit to them!” Sakai said. “The dumbasses don’t even realize that I’ve written ‘slut’ or ‘pervert’ on their skin!”

Heh!

Just found out that Q And Not U are touring the US again (43 dates no less), and they’re on tour with none other than Black Eyes. They play San Diego in early October - I *have* to be there for that, dammit.

This is funny, by the way.

Rallying

without comments

Me and my old man headed down to Silverstone this weekend as I had an introductory rally driving course to take part in on the Saturday morning.

We stayed in a place called Brackley on the Friday night which was pretty cool. Some good pubs round there with decent ale on tap like Spitfire, and as a result I was pretty fucking wasted by the end of the night. Woke up Saturday feeling a little worse for the wear - I remember at breakfast having a hard time eating cereal as I couldn’t hold the spoon steady enough (:

Brackley is damn expensive too. We checked out house prices just out of curiosity and there were places like looked like a council house fetching upwards of £120,000. Nuts.

Anyway, luckily by lunchtime I felt OK so we headed over to Silverstone, my dad was there just to spectate and snap a few photos and so he just hung around while I attended a briefing which detailed basic techniques and stuff. We then headed over to the course itself where we spent about two hours in total.

The cars were Peugeot 290GTi’s in full rally specification, so they were fairly rapid - easily quick enough for newbs :) They took us through all the basics like handbrake turns, controlled slides, rally lines, that kind of thing and then let us spend some time just powering round the course once we had the right idea. Total driving time was only around 40 minutes though which definitely wasn’t enough, but I guess that’s always going to be the case.

We were also graded on our performance, and I have to say that I did pretty fucking ace. 90% overall and a ’star driver’ comment. Skills tbh. All in all it was great fun, and probably the best experience I’ve had out of the motorsport activities I’ve done in the past. Next up, supercars I reckon :)
