San Diego

with 5 comments

So I’m sat here with my coffee from AMPM having woken up about 30 minutes ago and figured I’d better just make a quick update to say yep, I made it OK (eventually). The flight over for the most part wasn’t too bad, although once we got over San Diego the pilot announced he couldn’t land there due to fog and the resulting poor visibility. Instead they flew us up to LAX where the airline eventually managed to organise a bus back down to San Diego for us.

Not much has actually changed here though, maybe a few new buildings but it’s mostly all the same which is fine by me. As far as the fires and stuff go I haven’t really seen anything too crazy, some bits burned out here and there and there’s ash in a lot of places but for the most part the smoke seems to have dispersed and yesterday we had blue skies and sunshine for a good deal of the day.

Haven’t really had chance to do anything too exciting just yet, although me and Taylor did go for a pedal yesterday in his neighbourhood (Clairmont) and found one of the sickest wallrides ever. We sessioned that for a bit and will no doubt be back to it again very soon so next time I’ll go armed with a camera to take some photos.

That’s it for now, more soon :)

Er, shit.

So I’m due to fly in to San Diego on Tuesday and I’m wondering if there’ll be anything left of it, considering the fires that are raging there at the minute. Doesn’t look good :/

Apparently Pacific Beach will be OK (although I hear it’s fairly close to La Jolla / UTC now), but I’m wondering about airport closures and stuff. Don’t especially want to get stuck in Philly for any great length of time, but I guess there’s not much that can be done.

ETA:

From signonsandiego.com - “Air traffic into San Diego’s Lindbergh Field and other Southern California airports was held on the ground at originating airports after the FAA’s Southern California Terminal Radar Approach Controle had to be evacuated as the Cedar Fire spread onto MCAS Miramar.”

OK, so I may be buggering off to the US for a few months but I’m missing some awesome bands whilst away. Worst part is there isn’t anyone halfway decent playing in San Diego while I’m there (Rachel’s are playing in LA though and that’ll definitely be worth a trip).

Just so you know, this is who you have to see:

31st October: Giddy Motors and 31knots @ Packhorse, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds;
2nd November: Nina Nastasia @ St. John’s Church, Leeds;
16th November: Red Animal War @ Satan’s Hollow, Manchester;
13th December: Black Eyes and Unit Ama @ Joseph’s Well, Leeds;
17th December: Pretty Girls Make Graves @ Manchester Hop & Grape.

Black Eyes are also playing a date in Manchester (the 8th of December at the Star and Garter), but you really should travel to Leeds to see Unit Ama too.

[me] “Hey Boothy, fancy redesigning my blog for me before I go to the US? Plz!”
[Boothy] “Yep sure!”

Of course, this came at a price, and the ol’ Rindinator isn’t cheap. I now owe him a coffin full of live midgets and a ton of wifebeater in return. Seriously though dude, I’m fucking stoked. Cheers again :)

And yep, this means I’ll start actually writing stuff in here. Should have plenty to say considering I’m off to San Diego for three months on the 28th (:
