I went to Fry’s today to pick up a harddisk and a cable modem for a friend, and I think Fry’s have the whole American consumerism thing totally wired. The majority of the electronic equipment for sale is on one side of the store, and the actual checkout is right on the other side.

The fun part of the checkout process is the way in which they make you walk through rows and rows of pointless shit, like things that you’d never have come in there for in the first place such as snacks and junk food, but obviously people end up buying incidentally on the way out. It’s all so random, yet perfectly planned by the store owners to have people spend that little bit of extra cash on something they didn’t need. Goddamn corporates.

Speaking of randomness: Abercrombie and Fitch, Nate Wessel, what the fuck?

I saw Pretty Girls Make Graves last week, they were really good. The band looked real tired, but the set they played was 100% tight and most of them (especially the lead singer) looked like they were having a lot of fun. I have photos (too many in fact) which I’ll upload at some point once I actually get around to sifting through them.

Also, my new bike is built and dialled, and I’m stoked again. Just need to actually do some riding now. Wouldn’t mind hitting Clairmont YMCA park tomorrow but believe it or not the weather is really shitty at the minute so it might not be dry enough.

Don’t know how the fuck I missed this, but J. Robbins is in a new band called the ‘Channels’. Never mind Mr. Robbins though, Darren Zentek (ex-Kerosene 454) is on drums. They’re going to fucking rule. Now if only Erik Denno would start something new.

While I’m on a music-related tip, I’d just like to say that Pitchforkmedia’s ‘revised’ Top 100 Albums of the 90’s is utter bullshit. No Drive Like Jehu, no Rodan, no Hoover, and yet there’s like four albums by Built to Spill in there and other multiple entries from questionable bands like the Breeders, Massive Attack, etc. What the fucks up with that?

As for how life out here in San Diego is going, it’s all pretty good apart from having my bike stolen from my garage a couple of weeks back that is. I have a new one, but UPS managed to dent the frame and bend a seatstay slightly during transit so I’m awaiting a replacement. All the red tape surrounding this though (UPS having to come and take photos, contact insurance, etc) means it’s taking longer to sort out than I’d originally hoped :/

I have been to Vegas again though, and I spent Thanksgiving in Arizona with Heather and her family who were fantastic and fed me full of good food. Weather out here is still nice too, and sitting looking at the ocean never gets boring. Speaking of which, time for coffee then I’m off to the beach.
