Art Fag

with 2 comments

I’ve been going over a few of the more ‘artsy’ photos that I took while I was in the US and after some Photoshoppery (mainly just resizing and fixing levels) I’ve uploaded them here. There’s a few that aren’t in any albums already and a couple that are, but I reckon they’re all worth highlighting.

On a photography note I’m selling my camera soon to buy one of these as soon as they appear. If anyone is interested in a Nikon Coolpix 995 with a few accessories (cheapo Raynox wideangle lens, spare batteries, lens filter kit, case, and 1GB microdrive) let me know.

‘Fire & Forget’ SETI@Home

This is quite cool:

“I’ve used my favourite OS (v3.3, the final a.out version) to create a single floppy disk (or CD) bootable image that can be used to run the seti@home client (ideal for server stack / farm environments). The beauty of this image over the Linux based ones is that it supports just about every single network card supported by OpenBSD on this one image (unlike any of the Linux based bootable images, which kindly ask you to create, build and install a version that will support your network card), and only requires a DHCP server somewhere accessible in the network for it’s connections.”

Check it out here. Might be useful for someone with a shitload of headless / HDDless boxes lying around (Chris?).

Pitchfork, Tripping Balls

without comments

Yeah, again. I don’t know what the fuck this reviewer was smoking when she made this comment:

“It’s a giant leap forward for The Von Bondies– one that blasts them out of their homogeneous garage-rock roots and into their rightful position as amp-crashing successors to the indie rock thrones of Nation of Ulysses and Drive Like Jehu.”

You have to wonder if the review has actually heard anything by NoU or DLJ, or if she’s just name dropping for some credibility. I’m guessing the latter.

[maxi--] whnever i read a really annoying review in pitchfork
[maxi--] i just go to buddyhead

Valuable Lessons in Life

with one comment

I learnt something useful today. You know those ‘new’ repackaged sugar-free ‘Tunes’ (the menthol sweet things), yeah? Well, you don’t want to consume two packets of those in one morning, not unless you plan on spending the rest of the day pissing out of your ass.

This is especially bad if you’re at work and your employer maintains a toilet without any shit roll and which is in roughly the same state as what you’d expect to find in a Farnworth pub at 11:30pm on a Friday night.
