No Channels gigs until Autumn

without comments

Channels were supposed to be playing a few dates in the UK, but apparently not now:

“Channels has had to cancel their small amount of UK dates in March. A family emergency resulted in them being well and truely ripped off by British Airways, leaving them without the funds to travel to London for a vacation that was to include 3 gigs. They are hoping to return for a full UK tour some time in the Autumn.”

Sucks.

While I’m here, check this out:

Sound-emitting toy. A monkey-in-box toy that, upon shaking, shouted, “Let me out of here! Help! Let me out of here!” Addressed in big letters to LITTLE JOHNNIE. Sound toy was equipped with a new battery. Delivery at doorstep, 6 days.

I had no idea that the dude in SNFU looked as freaky as this (more photos here). I’m enjoying their new album.

New server is coming along nicely - it’ll be a 633MHz Celeron, 512MB, about 160GB of disk space, and running NetBSD. What was ‘freebsd.cx’ will be ‘void.dischord.org’ and this new box will be ‘ignition.dischord.org’. Most services will be on the new box (except for ones where it’d make sense to leave them at Toro for convenience, obviously).

Everyone buy Muad a beer.

Dischord News January 2005

without comments

This came via email. The bit about Lungfish is awesome, as is news of the upcoming full lengths from French Toast and Medications:

The Evens, a duo featuring Ian MacKaye and Amy Farina, will have a full-length CD/LP out on Dischord on March 7, 2005 (US date). They will soon be playing in Newfoundland and are planning west coast dates for February. Check out their tour dates as they become available by going to http://www.dischord.com/tour

French Toast, featuring James Canty (Make Up, Nation of Ulysses) and Jerry Busher (All Scars, Fugazi) will be releasing their first full-length CD/LP, “In a Cave” on Dischord on March 7. They plan on touring extensively upon the album’s release. For more info go to http://www.frenchtoastdc.com

Q And Not U recently returned from a European tour which they have described as their best tour to date. Their new CD/LP, “Power,” came out in the fall and is still doing very well. The band will be playing sporadic shows over the winter and will tour the US in April. The band has a website you can check out at: www.qandnotu.org

Medications continue to play shows in support of their new EP on Dischord and have plans to record a full-length in February for a May release. For more information on Medications go to: http://www.medicationsband.com

Lungfish have recorded a new album, “Feral Hymns,” with Tim Green, formerly of Nation of Ulysses and currently of the Fucking Champs. The band is working on the artwork and we hope to have the album out this spring on Dischord. In the meantime Lungfish are planning some east coast dates so check out the tour page to see when dates are available: http://www.dischord.com/tour

2004 will take some beating for gigs (I saw Shellac, Hot Snakes, and Hoover play in the space of a month ffs…), but 2005 is starting to look pretty good already. Victory at Sea are playing at the end of January:

01/30/05: Brighton (Freebutt) UK
01/31/05: Manchester UK
02/01/05: Newcastle UK
02/02/05: Nottingham UK
02/03/05: Exeter (Cavern) UK
02/04/05: London (Garage upstairs)

And apparently (according to these guys anyway), Lungfish will be playing in the UK again in March followed by Medications in April. Fuck yeah.
